Natural food in plants and animals

Natural food is any substance that can be eaten and at the same time provide the necessary nutritional value to the body. This includes vitamins, proteins, minerals, fats and more. Digesting natural substances through the body and the cells of the body, creates the energy needed for growth and maintenance of life. Most of the natural food comes from plants and animals, but not all (fungi, algae or inorganic substances, salt and soda). On Planet Earth, beings must eat to survive.

Various types of food

Plants, there are many species of plants, 2000 species used for human consumption. Many are rich in nutritional value. People are consuming most plants with seeds, nutrients contain fats such as omega. It is a healthy natural food with a high amount of unsaturated fat. Edible seeds are cereals, legumes and oilseeds. Some seeds can not be eaten, such as large seeds in the apple and cherries, which contain cyanide or lemon in which it occurs choking.

Animals are used as food. Meat consists of muscle fibers with a certain fat, content of the connective tissue and organs. It is rich in proteins, fats, vitamins and other values. Products from animals include milk produced by the mammary glands and processed dairy products such as cheese and butter. Birds and other animals lay eggs, which are eaten. Bees produce honey, obtained from the nectar of flowers.

Fish is an important source of high quality protein, minerals, essential fatty acids and contains many vitamins (A, D, E and K). They are vital to the healthy functioning of the body. There are different types, such as white, blue fish and shellfish. White fish contains little fat, less than 1% and the blue fish from 10 to 25%.

Vegetables having a high content of vitamins, minerals and cellulose and the amount depends on the type of vegetable and has a very large role in the diet. We have a root, leaf, parent vegetables and flowering vegetables.

Fruit also has nutritional value and contains vitamins, minerals, cellulose, enzymes, acids and other. There is a fruit that is eaten as a vegetable, such as eggplant, tomatoes, pumpkins and more. Strawberry technically belongs to the vegetables, but is eaten as a fruit.

Fungi perform an important role in the decomposition of organic matter and have a fundamental role in the nutrient cycle and the exchange in the environment. They have long been used as a direct source of food, in the form of mushrooms and truffles, as a leavening agent for bread and in fermentation of various food products such as wine, beer and soy sauce. The fungus used for the production of antibiotics and various enzymes derived from fungi are used in industry and in detergents.

Algae can be used as a food additive. From brown algae which are milled and dried products are flour (porridge) and used as a food additive for livestock.

Natural food taste:

People and animals have five different types of taste (sweet, salty, sour, bitter and umami). Sweet and salty are flavors that provide the most energy and there are fats and sugars, most comfortable for eating, a bitter and sour tastes are not so pleasant. Water is also very important for the survival and has no taste.

Sweet is caused by simple sugars such as glucose or fructose. The taste of sugar is pleasant and is vital for energy and survival. Complex carbohydrates do not have a sweet taste. Stevia is a plant that contains a compound known as steviol and has minimal impact on blood sugar levels.

Salinity taste is caused by an alkali metal such as sodium and potassium. There are many different types of salts, each with different degrees of salinity. It is found in almost every food. To eat pure salt is highly unpleasant. The importance of salt, which in addition to improving the taste and gives the body what is required, maintain the delicate balance of electrolyte, which is a function of the kidneys. The salt can be iodized and iodine is a necessary nutrient that promotes thyroid function. Salt is used as a preservative, in particular, as a means of preserving foodstuffs.

Sour taste is obtained on acid, such as for example vinegar. Acidic foods are lemons, limes and oranges. Many foods, with a little sour, stimulate the palate and enhance the flavor.

Bitter is considered as unpleasant feeling, has a sharp, pungent taste as wormwood, example, caffeine or lemon peel. For some types of fruits are known to be bitter.

Umami is the least known in Western culture, but it has a long tradition of Asian cuisine. Umami is the taste of glutamate, especially monosodium glutamate, characterized as a tasty and rich in flavor. Salmon and mushrooms are foods rich in umami.
